What’s the Real Problem?

The other day as I was sitting in my home office I had become so involved in my day that I forgot I had left the TV on from the morning news/gossip hour. Something caught my attention when the Dr. Oz show came on. The topic of the day was Drugged Driving. Basically there are people that are taking enough over-the-counter medications and prescriptions that they are driving impaired. They even had a cop there telling them they could be arrested if pulled over. In typical M.D. tradition Dr. Oz had a Pharmacist come by to talk about the specific drugs that were really good at making us feel loopy.

But the one thing that really set up the whole show was at the very beginning. He went into the audience and asked if anyone was taking high blood pressure medicine to please stand up. About a half-dozen or so of the audience stood up. He then asked if anyone was taking cold medicine and about half the audience stood up. He then asked the same for anti-anxiety and allergies. From the TV view I could not see anyone still sitting. Dr Oz claimed there were a few people still sitting. Amazing!

This just blew me away. There had to be close to 200 people in the audience. To realize only a handful of them do not take or rather are currently not taking some form of medication was dumbfounding. On the show they weren’t really focused on the real problem. They were more concerned with warning people of driving if taking these “medications”. I’m thinking, “shouldn’t we focus on making the ‘medications’ obsolete?” so they don’t have to worry about driving under the influence. I mean really, there has to be a better way. To me working at managing your medication is energy to only attract more medication.

My quest is to come up with a better solution and answers to the real problem.

Why are we dependent on all these drugs?

Could it be something in our food?

I’ll leave you with this video from Jamie Oliver

I’ll have to agree with you on the point that we’re consuming too much medicine these days. The Jamie Oliver link doesn’t work. Though I have watched some of his shows before.
It’s not so much something in our food as how we prepare and consume it. Any thing is good in moderation, it’s when we consume too much that things get dangerous. I can eat Oreo cookies, drink an ice cold coke, and chow down on some deep fried foods, but it needs to be done in moderation. Consumer power is in the dollar, and for the past several decades consumers have chosen convenience, sweet, salty, and larger quantities of foods. Thanks for making this point from the Dr Oz show.
